Many of the residences in the Grand Bayou are established, but not old, having been built between 1970 and 1999, while a number of residences were built between 2000 to present day.

In addition to being coastal, Grand Bayou is a very nautical area, meaning that it is somewhat historic, walkable, densely populated and on the water. This gives the neighborhood a very nautical feel, with some seaside and shipping feel, which some may really enjoy the sights and sounds of.

Grand Bayou is a great place to raise your families. With its combination of top public schools, low crime rates, high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, and the many other families that live her, it’s easy to socialize and develop a sense of community.

In Grand Bayou over 40 percent of the working population is employed in executive, management, and professional occupations. The second most important occupational group in this neighborhood is manufacturing and laborer occupations, with nearly 29 percent of the residents employed. Other residents here are employed in sales and service jobs, from major sales accounts, to working in fast food restaurants at 17 percent, and more than 12 percent in clerical, assistant, and tech support occupations.

In the Grand Bayou area of Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, residents most commonly identify their ethnicity or ancestry as French at over 14 percent. There are also a number of people of Croatian ancestry at nearly six percent, and residents who report Italian roots more than five percent. Some of the residents are also of Asian or German ancestry at around five percent, among others. In Grand Bayou, members of the Atakapa-Ishak tribe still live off the land. As recently as 1980, roughly 200 people lived in Grand Bayou. Locals estimate the population today numbers 13 families who make their home here permanent. However, residents are determined to see to it that their community recovers.

The most common language spoken in Grand Bayou is English, spoken by over 92 percent of households, while three percent speak Vietnamese.
